Start your day at Ock Pop Tok, a social enterprise focused on ethical fashion and tour the facility, learning about local silk production and traditional weaving techniques. Observe master artists working with the all-natural products before trying your hand at creating your own Hmong batik designs. This wax resistant, Hmong-style design is placed on hand-loomed hemp and taught by the legendary Grandmother Zuzong, the resident batik teacher.

Next, join a lovely walking tour, visiting Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Visoun, the Melon Stupa and Wat Aham before returning to your hotel for rest and relaxation. We suggest checking out the daily night market in the evening to shop for souvenirs and gifts.

Drive out of Luang Prabang this morning 1-hour south to the out-of-this world Kuang Si Waterfall. Swim and relax in the glowing turquoise waters in your very own version of the Jungle Book. Stop at the Kuang Si Bear Rescue Sanctuary to learn about one woman’s efforts to protect Asian sun and moon bears from illegal poaching and organ theft for medicinal purposes.

Return to Luang Prabang in the late afternoon in time to join a Baci ceremony as the sun sets. Admire the atmospheric setting of lit candles gently flickering during the traditional blessing and national Lao custom offering good luck and health to the participants.

Day 4 : Meet locals at small villages on your way up the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves

Get comfortable aboard a traditional boat for an excursion up the Mekong River to the historical Pak Ou Buddha caves. Comprised of an upper and lower cave, they are historically significant due to monks using them for places of worship as well as personal dwellings in the past.

Return to Luang Prabang, stopping en route at three local villages, each specializing in unique products. Admire the delicate pottery found in Ban Chan and the exquisite silk weavings of Ban Xang Khong before venturing a sip of the local fiery Lao-Lao whiskey in Xang Hai.

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Belmond La Residence Phou Vao

Day 5 : Offer alms to monks before saying good-bye

Rise before the sun and take part in the iconic tradition of Luang Prabang, offering alms to a long line of monks in dusky saffron robes at Ban Vat Sean. The tradition of giving alms stems back to ancient times, with the idea to give without expecting anything in return. Typical alms givings are usually of simple food such as rice or fruit so that the monks can have their one meal per day.

After the ceremony, return to the hotel to have your own breakfast before checking out of the hotel and transferring to the Luang Prabang airport for your onward booked travel.
